The Project:
Have 25 3"x3" tattoo's Surrounded by a frame inked into my left leg by 25 different artists based upon traditional tattoo themes as interpreted by the artist themselves.
This project was born out of a love for art, classic tattoo flash, and a deep seeded attraction to traditional things, as well as breaking comfort zones.
Why do this? :
Maybe it was growing up in Amish Country Pennsylvania, where a person's entire life can be defined by traditions and routines. Maybe it was my introduction to the "Low Brow" and Rock Poster art styles of Frank Kozik, Ed Roth, Jermaine Rogers, Jeff Soto, and MARS1. And surely a big part of it is becoming comfortable enough in my own skin to express myself without fear of judgment.
This will not be my first tattoo/art project. That cherry was busted last year when I saw this artwork entitled "Out in the Cold" by Steve Clark, a local artist in Raleigh who also happened to do tattoo work. I loved the concept and asked him to do an updated version of it for me. I gave him complete freedom to take his painting from canvas to tattoo as he saw fit. He added more detail and depth to the story with a vortex, keyhole, and mysterious pages floating around.
This blog will document the travels and experiences as well as a look into the artist research and history of each piece of art.
Looks good man!
